In All Things Scary
Truly one our top ten scariest subjects we've talked about on the show (especially since we kept experiencing technical problems while recording the episode). The most known encounter of this demon was written by Darren Evans in 2009. But there is the belief that this demon has been around for over 200 years at least. The most common experience with Zozo usually begins with people believing they are speaking to a dead relative through a Ouija board. One of the reasons for this can be explained as people typically asking questions that already have a pre-determined answer and since these users are thinking of the answer as they are asking the question, the demon can easily tap into their thoughts and answer correctly. As the session progresses, Zozo will begin to reveal itself. It has also called itself MAMA. The oldest “Zozo” story comes from the 1816 book Dictionnaire Infernal by Collin de Plancy. Some speculate that Zozo is actually derived from the Mesopotamian god Pazuzu, who was known to be the ruler of the demons. Further, a symbol etching out the name “Zoso” as a code for the god Saturn appeared in a banned occult book in 1521. This would later be copied by Led Zeppelin as the symbol for their guitarist Jimmy Page. There is also reason to believe that Zozo is just a complete manifestation of our own minds. Much like Slender Man and Momo, these supposed entities are a result of scary stories going viral on the internet. The encounters are mostly made up. But what about the handful that sound very real? Our theory is a mix of all this. While we very much warn our listeners to not play with any devices that claim to connect users to spirits, we also know that people are going to do it. We also believe that just like chat rooms being used by sexual predators to trick children into believing they are children themselves in order to create a connection, evil spirits will use whatever form, or in this case popular name, they can to create connections to people who are attempting to communicate with any being from the spiritual world. So while this may not be the actual name of the demon (since demons don't typically just give away their names), it is the name the demon is using because it creates instant acknowledgement. And that's all a demon is looking for. It needs you to believe in it first. Once again, our advice is to NOT COMMUNICATE WITH SPIRITS AT ALL! Especially if you are not someone who continuously practices any form of spirituality. Leave it to the professionals. And even though the Ouija board is made by Milton Bradley, it's not meant to be a fun party game.

In All Things Scary
Often described as a Shadow Person with a fedora or wide brimmed hat, there is no exact explanation of what the Hat Man may be. After reading many stories and even hearing accounts from close friends who have woken up to "a shadow with a hat", we have our own theories on who or what the Hat Man is. If we had to categorize the Hat Man, the most general would be as a spiritual entity. The one constant in most stories is the Hat Man is not malicious. It's a frightening experience to see this entity, but this entity doesn't attack people. There are a handful of stories where people feel as if the Hat Man wanted to attack them. Because of this, we believe that there are more than one that exists. While most are non-threatening, there may be a few that have become slightly malicious. The other constant in the stories we've read is that the Hat Man usually appears after there is a death either in the family or in the house. It is our belief that the purpose of the Hat Man is to guide lost or stubborn souls to the afterlife. The spirits of people who are refusing to acknowledge that they have passed away or are the actual spirits haunting these houses. One of our close friends told us that the Hat Man pointed directly at him during his encounter. Following the "collector of souls" theory, I told my friend that he may have had a spirit behind him at that moment, as if the spirit itself was using our friend as a shield from the Hat Man. There are theories that the Hat Man is an alien or inter-dimensional being who is observing humans. Some accounts have also paired the Hat Man with sighting of a little girl spirit that is mostly light. Is this little girl his sidekick in finding lost souls? Is the Hat Man tracking down the little girl in a spiritual version of "Catch Me If You Can"? Or are these just coincidences of a few accounts? In the end, your interpretation will fall inside of what you believe about all things unknown.

Hey Everyone! So this is going to one of our newest steps into making True Scary Stories more known. I'll create a few forums to get started as the week progresses. If you see any issues with the site, let us know so that we can fix it. Other than that, let's all get along, have fun and talk about spooky stuff!
